QVB Set to Have a Face Lift
Our largest, most loved, historic shopping destination QVB, is about to undergo a cosmetic overhaul, in order to keep pace with the commercial realities of the 21st century. This gracious old sandstone building, which almost ended its days in obscurity as a city car park, has not been renovated since being re-opened two decades ago following an $86 million major restoration.
City of Sydney Council has approved the DA, giving the go ahead for a refurbishment. The renovation includes new escalators connecting ground, first and second levels as well as new signage, shopfronts, glazed balustrade plus a new heritage-appropriate colour scheme by specialist heritage architects Ancher, Mortlock and Woolley.
Work on the $26 Million refurbishment will commence in the second half of 2007. |
